May 2007 Press Release

“ Tea Total” Landlord raises £530 for Mawnan Playgroup

It’s been a dry old month for Ron Brown Landlord of the Ferry Boat Inn, Helford Passage, Mawnan Smith as he rose to the challenge that he couldn’t go a month without a drink.

The bet was the idea of some of his younger customers, who were adamant Ron wouldn’t last the distance. Undeterred Ron determinedly stuck to his side of the agreement and in doing so raised £530 for Mawnan Playgroup’s new build project.

Mawnan Playgroup are embarking on a project to build a brand new purpose built facility for the pre-school care of children in the village and surrounding parish as they have outgrown their current facilities and are experiencing increasing numbers children waiting to join. The group are currently exploring funding options and have started fundraising efforts.

Whilst relaxing with his favourite tipple a pint of lager Ron said “I knew this bet would push my will power to the limit, so I decided to have a focus, and as many of my customers have children who either are at or have been to Mawnan Playgroup, I thought this would be a deserving cause.”

On receiving the cheque for £500 Nick Bailey, Chairman of the Mawnan Playgroup’s new build committee said “We can’t thank Ron enough for his very generous donation, we were all very impressed with efforts. He has enabled us to get off to a flying start, and once we have reached our goal, Ron will be more than welcome to drop in for a drink, of orange squash that is!”

If you would like to become involved with the project or make a donation please call Nick Bailey on 01326 250770.
